Arctic Race is a family game of tactical racing across the polar ice. Each player secretly sponsors two dog sled teams, and the first player to get both of their teams to the North Pole wins.
How it plays
- Hidden sponsors: every player is dealt a card naming their two teams and keeps it secret. Several players can back the same team, but no two players share the same pair of teams.
- A new board every game: the track is built from large ice floes, and weather hazards start around the edge before being moved onto the track as play goes on.
- Godlike powers: on your turn you can move the hazards as well as any dog sled you like. A sled sitting on the same space as a hazard is stuck until that hazard is moved away.
- Two dice: the movement die moves a sled 1-4 spaces and sometimes lets you place a crack in the ice. The hazard die usually lets you move one of three types of hazard, sometimes lets you choose freely, and sometimes lets you move none.
- Cracks and ladders: cracks can only be crossed with ladder cards, and each player starts with three. Without a ladder, sleds must go around.
